Journalism and Creative Writing Program
@ Trent University & Durham College

In 2021, Trent University and Durham College launched the Journalism and Creative Writing degree-diploma program — the first of its kind in Canada. The challenge was to create a visual brand identity that visually communicates the unique advantages and opportunities of the program while building on Trent University and Durham College’s branding elements.

The resulting brand identity consists of a bespoke logomark for the program inspired by Marshall McLuhan’s work Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man (a foundational work in Canadian media and communication studies), a palette that leverages colour association and psychology to communicate the leadership and expertise of the program faculty, tasteful photography that captures the sense of community between Trent University and Durham College, and clean and modern typography that aligns with innovative nature of the degree-diploma program.

Completed: 2022

Deliverables: Visual brand identity, brand board, social media collateral

Softwares: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign
